The town of Craig, MT seems to be a little slower now that we are getting to the middle of the week. Its the time of week to have some quality fishing on quality water nearly by yourself. Again try to get here a little early or stay a little later to have your best luck on the mighty MO! New fly rods in the big red barn! Come check them out and give them a demo cast in the lawn.
The flows are now about 3200 cfs (normally ~7820cfs). Water temps at the dam are ~57, a bit warmer down river. The water is slowly creeping back up with bug hatches getting heavier as it goes. The clouds, if we get some, can help the fishing on the hot days. We are seeing Caddis, PMDs, BWOs and Midges on the Missouri River. I believe it pays off right now to hit the river early or to be prepared to stay late. We are nearing the longest day of the year so those twilight hours are plenty and productive. Don’t forget the emerging state of a caddis fly. The PMDs are looking big on the water next to the smaller BWOs we are seeing these days. If you want to trick those tough fish near or on the top think floating nymph style flies(RS2 style).
You can keep an eye on Canyon Ferry Reservoir levels, weather and of course, streamflows on our Streamflows page.
See our Schools & Instruction Page for more information on our Fly Tying Schools and our 3-Day Fly Fishing School.
